Fall Security Considerations

Fall Brings Changes To Physical Security Needs

As we get into fall and winter here in the Pacific Northwest it gets darker earlier and the weather changes. The holidays, time off, and shopping traffic increases, so physical security considerations and staffing needs will need a refresh! Fall is a good time to look at what your needs are and make changes to your security plan.

October, November and December are the busiest months for our business. Everybody wants to increase their security going into the holidays, or possibly hire one on.

It’s also good to keep in mind that if you are looking to hire a security company during this time of year, it’s best to give them as much time as possible. Don't wait until the week before Thanksgiving to start looking for a security company to work starting in December!

Here are 6 Things to Keep in Mind for Fall Physical Security:

  1. Recruiting takes time - plan ahead! Hiring and recruiting the right people who will be a good fit for your site and needs takes time. As already mentioned, plan to reach out and get the process going before the holidays and the need for security is directly upon you.

  2. Make sure that all of your cameras are operational: When was the last time you checked your cameras? Check that footage is being uploaded and viewed, and that all cameras are operating correctly. Trust us when we say, double checking your cameras can go a long way in securing your site.

  3. Make sure that your exterior lighting and interior safety lighting works very well: Do a test in the evening or at night and make note of any areas that are not well lit. Make a plan to install extra lights or motion lights.

  4. Map out a schedule of hours you would need a physical security presence: This may be from open to close, all day long, or even overnight. Most companies we serve choose to have an overnight presence, which addresses the common times for criminal activity. This is generally because darkness is used to their advantage. However, crimes do occur during the day, especially if the perpetrator thinks no one is paying attention!

  5. Peace of mind matters: Along with deterring any vandalism or theft, the physical security presence will give you the peace of mind that there is someone there who is monitoring your property and keeping it safe. If you shut down between Christmas and New Years, keeping a security presence for your piece of mind can be extremely beneficial to enjoying your time off.

  6. Assess your physical security needs for the coming year: Physical security will benefit you most by using it consistently. We recommend working with us beyond the fall and holiday season and consider your points of vulnerability. Do you think you need an armed guard who is on your site 24/7, or a targeted patrol service? This is a good time to start thinking about your needs and budget.
